2025 RACING RESULTS
Steven had his first ride in a Super Late Model at New Smyrna tonight.  It was a practice night, and this was Louis Brashear's new car that was on the track for the first time.  He liked it and was cruising along pretty well.  However, the car had brake and oil pressure issues, so the night was done after one, long session.

Steven and I were at Ocala Speedway for night one of their Winter Games.  We were driving George Sands' Mod Lites.

It got a little weird right from the start...Steven had a hard flip in turn one of the first heat.  This was the first time he had been upside down in his racing career.  I ended up stepping out of the other car thinking he would drive it, but we just took the rest of the night off.

So with one car balled up and stuck in the trailer, we came back for night #2 with the remaining car.

Steven is learning the track and had a hard-fought heat, but he ended up in a B main.  He won the B main by a straight and transferred to the feature starting 18'th out of 24.

The feature was busy and competitive!  He ran in traffic the whole time and ended up 11'th.

Before the races, I made a trip to the amazing Don Garlits Museum.  What a destination for racers, mechanics and fabricators.

George, Dwayne and Steven headed south to Hendry County Speedway for practice on 2-6 and racing on 2-7.  Hendry was running their biggest event of the year, the Sugar Bowl.

Night 1, Steven finished 3'rd in his heat and transferred into the feature.  That started him 18'th in the feature.  While running in dense race traffic, he was involved in two incidents.  During the second one, someone ran into the front end and broke the steering, so we were done.

Showtime Speedway and the Dave Steele Classic
We met Mike Blake at the track and started the thrash.  The 81 needed a lot of work so we had a long, busy day.  Tonights race was a wingless 100 lapper.  Steven qualified 8'th and worked his way up to 5'th, but the car started to have a strong vibration.  It turns out that several motor mounting bolts had fallen out or loosened up.  There were other driveline issues too, so we had plenty of work the next day too.
Mike Blake stayed at my house this week, so we moved #81 into my shop for maintenance.  I even took the farm boy to the beach!

Citrus County Speedway Dream Fund 50
We left for Citrus Co. on Thursday morning, worked on 81 all afternoon and Steven had two practice sessions at night.
Saturday was another long day of toil.  There are 24 cars here, and some are the very best in our sport.  Steven qualified 10'th, and finished 8'th in a long and wild 50 lapper.  He spent a ton of laps running and passing on the outside.  An exciting race!

I had Sky with me all weekend.  There was another Border Collie at the track named Cricket.  She loved to play ball too, so her and Sky hung out.
Saturday and we were back at the track and back to work on 81.  Steven qualified 9'th, but I finally found a problem with the rear end and fixed it for the heat.  Then made another adjustment for the feature and we were finally really fast.  He made 2 tough passes on the outside and was rollin'!  Then on lap 6, something came apart in the driveline and our weekend was done.

Showtime Speedway
Steven picked up a last-minute ride in Chaz Hambling's #P1.  I was on a cruise and had to miss this race.  Chaz and Steven struggled in the pits all afternoon with several problems, but did finish the feature race.  No, not a good finish, but we can build from here.

Auburndale Speedway
I got to the track with my #85 on Friday afternoon around 2.  The idea was for Steven to practice in the P1 today, but that car didn't arrive until 8.  We worked in a hotel parking lot, but found a broken part from last week.  A frustrating night....

Saturday morning, Chaz and I took the car to Troy Thompson's for an emergency repair.  Troy was great, but we had 3 hours of travel time invested.  We worked like dogs and got to the track around 2.

I took 85 out for two practices.  The motor was flat, but I adjusted on the fuel system and it got much better every time.  I ran the heat race and made a final adjustment before the feature.  Oops, now it would not run, but I got pushed back to the pits, did a very quick fix and joined the field for the start.

After all the work last night and today, I admit that I was exhausted.  My leg fell asleep and I could not catch my breath, so I pulled out after 12 laps or so.  I just don't fit in that car at all...

Steven ran pretty well after all the scrambling.  He finished 6'th and was right with the leaders.

Waffle House and home!

Anderson Speedway
For the third year in a row, I went with Adema Racing to the Little 500.  We left Ft. Myers on Sunday, May 18, and we rolled into Anderson the following day.  I checked into my home for the next week: a yurt in the campground where the rest of the team was staying.

Home sweet yurt.
On Tuesday, May 20, we dropped off the race trailer at the track, and blew off steam at Speedway Indoor Karting in Indy.
Wednesday was the first time we were allowed to unload and work in the pits.  We got there early and I was the first person in line.  It was a cold and damp day.  Scotty and I unloaded, and mounted tires for the week.  We were supposed to practice today, but the track was not yet open at 4 when we left and had a big team meal at a Mexican restaurant.
Thursday is supposed to be practice and first round qualifying.  Instead we had wet, rainy, windy conditions; honestly I thought it was going to snow.  It got down to 49 degrees, but felt much colder.  The weather moved the entire schedule back by several hours.

Scotty got out and did get some practice.  Qualifying rained out after 15 minutes, so at 10 pm we called it a night.
The weather has mangled the schedule, so everything is getting pushed into this last day.

Today was sunny and warmer, but still in the 50's.  We were "qualified" by our best (but limited) practice times, and we were sitting in 29'th.  Bumping started, and we were in fact bumped out of the field.  However, Scotty was strapped in and ready, so he immediately went out and turned his best times of the week and landed in 27'th.

At the end of all qualifying, he was set to start 29'th....again!  Scotty has made this race 3 times, and has started 29'th every time!
Saturday, May 24, raceday for the Little 500!
Sunny and warm for the first time since we have been in Indiana!  We had a calm morning; Ryan and I set up most of the infield while Scotty tinkered with the racecar.  The rest of the team showed up, so we finished preparations early and had a nice afternoon filled with anticipation.

There was a scare in the final hot lap session, but Scotty had the parts to make a last-minute repair before the race began.
Green flag and Scotty was running pretty well.  The goal was to stay out of trouble and to pile up laps.  Trouble-free until around lap 60 when the car jumped out of gear.  It caused a yellow, but we put it back in gear and pushed off again.  The problem is that it jumped out of gear two more times.  We were unable to address it; something on the inside of the rear-end was coming apart.  We ended up going around 100 laps and finished 25'th (I think)

The next day, we were up and out early for the Indianapolis 500!  Maybe a little tired, maybe a little foggy, but ok, it was a fun spectacle.

Steven was back in my car for the Southern Sprint Car Series at Citrus.  It was a hot day, but the car was prepared and ran perfectly all day.  We won the heat race, and ended up third in the feature.  We had 40 laps of hard racing in the feature.  Steven worked on second place for 20 laps, but that guy did what he had to do and held on.  Good race!
