New Smyrna kicked off their year with the "Red Eye 100".  Mini stocks were added to the show, so I started the season with a second place finish and a fun night.

Orlando Speedworld
I broke the clutch cylinder in practice, so I didn't have a working clutch pedal for the rest of the day.  It was the first time I had to shift without the clutch, and even thaugh I did ok on the starts, I ended up 4'th....in a field of 5!

I put on the one fine racing party at the "Lil' 500"!
This was the  4'th year and it turned out to be the biggest and best one yet.  We can't really count the guests, but it was clearly over 100.
This year, we had championship winning drivers from sprints, super late models and lots of local classes.  Officials, fans, crew members and even a racing photographer.  The weather was perfect, we had lots of good food, and a good time was had by all.  Success!

New Smyrna
This was a little different.  I've bought a Mustang for my friends to run in the Strictly Stock class.  I had hoped to test it at Orlando, but since they rained out last night, I ended up driving it at New Smyrna.
I drove #B1 until half way, and pulled out because I knew the engine had an oil leak.
Ok, that makes 3 racecars....
March 19, 2010
Why me?  Race photographer extraordinaire Jim Jones caught me pigging out on yet another chili dog.  Andy Sandall and Michael Seay look on in envy.
March 26, 2010
Back in action at Orlando.
Hmmm...  I thought my car was going pretty well, but I ended up third after starting on the pole.  I gotta get to work!

Alas!  The slump continues.
I suspect that my engine is down on power a little bit.  I am driving hard and seem to be very fast in the corners, but I still ended up 4'th.
April 9, 2010
Oy Vey!
The right front tire blew while I was in the middle of the corner.  I guess my car bottomed out and I became as one with the concrete.
April 23, 2010
I picked up 85 late Thursday night and did some work on it Friday.  The race was supposed to be a 3 lap test for me, but it ran pretty well so I stayed in and finished 3'rd.
April 16, 2010
Remember "B1" from March 13'th?  I took it out to score a few points while 85 is getting fixed.
Note to self: do not repeat this act.  Ever.
May 7, 2010
I got to the track after 8 because we were having an impromptu birthday party for my son. So I missed practice and started last, but ran pretty fast and ended up second.  Lots of fun overall!
That is my dad in the picture below.  This was his first night at the track for a few years.
May 14, 2010
My friend Ed won his first ever race in the Sportsman feature!  There were a bunch of us on hand to celebrate the good news.  From left to right: me, Todd McCreary, Ed Michalek, Mike Soukup, Michael Seay, Andy Sandall.

We don't want to discuss MY race.  It is a tale of woe that involved leading for 23 laps and spinning out....
May 21, 2010
Not one of my more memorable nights.  I showed up with 3 new tires, but didn't get any practice. New tires are great the second time out, but I didn't handle that well and finished 3'rd.

Feature win #26!  That broke a 1 1/2 year winless spell.....what a relief!
June 11, 2010
I'm not too happy about this night.  I took the lead and led most of the feature while two other cars pounded on my back bumper.  No problem, I took the white flag and had the race won, but just a half a lap from the finish line the starter put out the yellow!  It was for something that happened behind me, and we had a clear track to the checkered.  Bad call!  That situation usually gets a checkered and a yellow.  So after a lengthly clean up, we restarted the final lap.   I had a fast car next to me and we ran very hard for the last lap.  He got me by a few feet.  The starter's decision cost me this one.

The track ran "Crash A Rama" tonight!  My son and I got to meet Larry the Cable Guy.
May 19, 2010
I made a trip to St. Petersburg for the "Jack is Back" edition of Inside Florida Racing!

Andy "The Secret Weapon" Sandall made his oval track debut in my Strictly Stock tonight.  This car was formerly septic brown in color, and carried the numbers B1 and spray paint 85.  Anyway, here it is, with a new engine and extensive rebuilding.  Andy didn't put a mark on it and finished forth in his first race,

I had the Strictly Stock at Orlando, but the races rained out after practice.
Saturday, July 10, 2010
85X was back in action for the first time in 2010.  I took it to Citrus County Speedway and ran a regular 25 lap feature there.  No, it was not my best race, but it certainly was a fun night at a track.
Saturday, July 31, 2010
I took the Strictly Stock at NSS to get the engine running right.  We finally got things figured out by feature time, so I ended up third and had a good ride.
Friday, August 7, 2010
Robin took my car out for 3 practice sessions!
Saturday, May 29, 2010
I took the trusty old 85X to NSS to shake down the new engine.
August 21, 2010
I took the old car to New Smyrna for a 50 lapper, and qualified 5'th.  Halfway through the race, I had transmission troubles and ended up dropping out after 35 laps or so.
August 28, 2010
I made my first visit of the year to Auburndale Speedway and had a great time.  Ole' 85X was going pretty well too, I started the night in 10'th and finished 4'th.
September 3, 2010
Tonight's race at Orlando Speedworld was pretty uneventful, and I ended up 2'nd in the mini stocks.
September 10, 2010
Rained out after practice, AGAIN!
September 17, 2010
We finally got another race in for the Strictly Stock.  Andy finished 5'th out of 12 cars, but he got the chance to race in traffic all night and to have a great time.  He lost the "learner plate" too!
September 25, 2010
Any night at the track is a good night, ok?  So tonight I took 85X to New Smyrna.  We only had 3 cars, and we were all evenly matched.  Even though our cars were fast, we lined up and ran an uneventful race.  Orlando rained out the night before.
September 16, 2010
Test 'N Tune at Orlando!
This was an interesting night.  My Son Michael took out the Strictly Stock car for two sessions.  It was his first time driving a standard shift car, and his first time in a racecar.  Not bad!  He just turned 15 this month.

September 11, 2010
Ok, so this is race related, even though it wasn't racing.  I took the boys to a charity fund raising bowling tournament that was put on by the track.
Later on Test 'N Tune night, I ended up shaking down one of the most unusual cars I've ever driven.  #114 is a recently finished replica of a British F1 stock car.  The guy who built it, also raced one like it in England 30+ years ago.  Cool!

October 1, 2010
I ran 85 mini stock at Orlando, and managed to scrape the wall in practice (doh!)  We spent most of the night drawing grafitti on Tim's car parked next door.  The race was uneventful and I ended up third, but we sure had fun in the pits.
October 8, 2010
Andy was back in action in my Strictly Stock.  He had a busy race and ran in traffic the whole time.  This was his third career race and he ended up 6'th.
Here is a link to an in-car camera view of the race.  It was shot from Luis Guillen's car, and he races with Andy for several laps.  Click HERE.
October 9, 2010
85X returns to action at New Smyrna.  We had a competitive and interesting race!  I finished 3'rd out of 11.

My friend from work also drove on a track for the first time.  She is a big race fan, so she has scratched this item off her bucket list!

October 15, 2010
Andy drove the Strictly Stock at Orlando to a 6'th place finish.  No pix yet.

October 22, 2010
Ok, sometimes ya just gotta get lucky!  Tonight was my night for some good luck.  I showed up (after a last minute change of plans) with 85X, a car that had sat untouched since racing at New Smyrna.  I only had an hour or so of tinkering with it, and I didn't show up at the track until 8:30.  Worst of all, it still had the gearing set up for New Smyrna, so I expected to be really slow.  As luck would have it, the car went pretty well, and two of my fast competitors dropped out, so I ended up second.

November 5, 2010
Andy drove the Strictly Stock at Orlando in a wild race on the last night of the year.  Naturally, the Strictly Stocks ran last, so in the last lap, and in the last corner, Andy got run over by the 6'th place car.  This was the first time the body got good and mangled.

Friday, November 19, 2010
Since neither of the mini stocks are together and running, I took the Strictly Stock to run during the Governor's Cup weekend at New Smyrna.  Tonight I put on mini stock tires and between attrition and some disqualifications, I ended up 6'th out of 16 cars.  I was WAY under-powered, but managed to have a good race with a few other minis.
Saturday, November 20, 2010
Tonight I ran in the Strictly Stocks at New Smyrna.  Our race followed an excellent edition of the Governor's Cup.  It seems like I was in traffic the whole way (fun!) and awarded 5'th (although it should have been 3'rd, some politics or something kicked in).  This was a 12 hour marathon day at the track!

Friday, November 26, 2010
Crash A Rama at Speedworld!  I ran in the enduro, the double flag-pole race and the skid cars.  Tim Walters finished off my car in the 4 cylinder demo.

This was an unforgetable night!
I went to the first Hialeah Speedway reunion.  WOW, what a blast!

This was the most fun I've had racing for years!  I ran the Strictly Stock at Orlando in a 30 lap race that was part of the Charity Truckers 200 weekend.   There were 20 or so cars in the race, and I ran toward the front with a group of 4 or 5 that were very competitive, but clean.  There was also lots of lapped cars, so it seems like we were in traffic the whole time.  I ended up 3'rd and had a blast!  The "incident" above occured on the first lap of practice.
So there you go, another season.
Regrets?  I've had a few.  But then again, too few to mention.

I ended up second in my class at Orlando, and had a night out with my girl at the FASCAR banquet.

This was the most active year I've had as a racer.  I ran 36 nights: most as a driver and a few as an owner.

The off-season is here and only one car is still running, so there is some work ahead before it all kicks off again in 2011!
